The current strain of Coronavirus has been spreading and causing outbreaks across the entire world, originating near Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. The virus primarily spreads between people in a similar way to the flu, by respiratory droplets such as spittle during coughing or sneezing. The time between exposure and displaying symptoms is typically five days but may range from two to fourteen days. Symptoms are most often fever, cough, and shortness of breath; but can complicate into pneumonia and multi-organ failure.

What You Can Do To Stay Healthy And Safe

While the United States, and especially Texas, have only seen limited cases confirmed, it’s important to be aware of this virus. It may seem like many people suffering more serious symptoms or death are older, but there are a few noted cases of younger people going through advanced symptoms around the world too.

In order to avoid catching or spreading the Coronavirus, remember to wash your hands or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer regularly. If washing, use soap and hot water for at least twenty seconds. Try to also avoid touching your face, especially your eyes and mouth, and to cough into a bent elbow instead of your hand or uncovered. This will limit your exposure and the exposure of others to mucus and spittle that may spread pathogens.
